Hello guys my name is Caleb Pezold, I am currently enrolled at McPherson college studying Automotive Restoration. I was currently tasked with doing a research paper on one of Mark Donohue’s race cars and trying to track it down. (Understanding that some are deemed “lost”) I was intrigued by the SP 250 that he raced for a short stent in 1963. I have tried do find some research on it but keep running into dead ends. I know it is a long shot to find any information on this car as one Donohue was not a fan of it and writes very little on the car in his book. Second he had the car for a very short stent and it seems to have been bought through private sale and sold through private sales. What gives me some hope though is the line he uses here: “The next guy reassembled it the way we said to and was much more successful.” He also states that the car was sold to a guy in Florida. I have no idea if you guys have any more information for me or not. I’m open to any stories of who may have purchased the car and what potentially happened to the car after Donohue’s ownership. Thank you guys for your time and any information is considered helpful.

    Came across this: https://www.scca.com/articles/2004786-tbt-at-the-can-am-series-by-mark-donohue

    In the article he states:

I was working as a technical consultant for a pulverizing company at the time, and decided to buy a V-8 Daimler SP-250 because I liked the sound of the engine. I entered five races, and lost five engines, one cylinder head, the brakes twice and the clutch once. My vacation was all used up and I was broke again. I was discouraged, but with Hank Thorp’s help we sold the car “in a basket.” Funny how these things work—shortly after the sale, I happened to stumble over the reason for the car’s engine failures, informed the new owner of some suggested modifications I would have incorporated—and wouldn’t you guess, the guy went on to win the next twelve races.
