The Essex group are planning a 2 nights/3days (7th – 9th July) on a dinner, bed & breakfast at The Cambridge Belfry hotel. If you care to join us, please email me as above. The hotel has a spa and swimming pool where we have use of those facilities, which are included. There is a ‘tulip rally’ through the countryside with a refreshment stop then lunch and later still an evening meal.
Mentioning of spa, brings me on to our own trip out to the Ardennes forest as we turn our attention to the Spa Classic weekend trip this month. What better way than to get into our stride with this fabulous shot of the late Australian Digby Smith exercising his SP amongst other exotic machinery. Last heard of this SP (chassis no: 103753) had been returned to road going trim and now in New Zealand.
Which brings me neatly onto our trip itself. We have a total of 21 cars for the line up at our exclusive club stand inside the track opposite the famous Eau Rouge corner at Raidillion. We enter this famous circuit shorten for safety reasons as historically it was run on public roads, whereas now a dedicated race track. We enter through what is called the Blanchimont tunnel to gain entrance to the infield having first driven a fair few miles of the old road circuit and where last year we had a group photograph at the old Stavelot corner.
The twenty third and latest edition of pasSPort has gone to the printers and should be dispatch within the next three weeks.
We have decided for next year, 2027, to hold an SP250 day at the Shuttleworth Collection in Bedfordshire. https://www.shuttleworth.org/visit/before-you-visit/car-clubs Updated details will be published in the Driving Member and this newsletter.
Dennis Talyor who lives in Yuma in the Sun-soaked state of Arizona sent me a number of photographs of SPs sunbathing in Phoenix, 9 in total. Being somewhat curious he decided to ‘pop over’ as one does in the states – just a mere drive of 200 miles to view what lies basking in the Arizonia desert – it was mind boggling. Not much in the way of identities to help my quest for ‘lost information’. But, what a hoard of spare parts! If interested drop Dennis an email he is in pasSPort.

And speaking of a hoard, Michael Bamford, in Georgia, USA has 7 road going SPs one for each day of the week! Anyone Trump that!
We are setting our sights on Coombe Abbey for this years’ DLOC National Rally 24th – 28th June. https://www.dloc.org.uk/rally-2026 Do came along and make it an enjoyable day and if you are staying, we hope to have a couple of dedicated SP tables.
Read a most interesting snippet recently in that it stated ‘29% of all accidents are caused by speeding’ therefore, it implies that 71% of drivers are driving at or below the speed limit, consequently the statistics suggests it is safer to exceed the speed limit! So much so for statistical analysis?
An SP for sale here in the UK https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z3US0Hvggv4 at Historics on 16th May whilst on Bring-a-Trailer last month we saw:- https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1961-daimler-sp250-8/ sold $47,000
And Finally ………….
I am not clipping this ironic photograph of the Swedish-American ‘sex-kitten’ Ann-Margaret (Olsson). However, you must look beyond her fair charms.

Thought for the day:
People who claim their wedding day was the best day of their lives have obviously never had two Mars bars fall out of a vending machine at the same time…
