SP250s CARS FOR SALE
1962 Daimler SP250 Dart For Sale Derby UK
For sale is my much loved and enjoyed Daimler SP250 Dart. The car was first registered on the 8th January 1962. I am the 4th owner & have looked after her for the past 14 years. I purchased the car from a Morgan Dealer part restored and have continued to maintain the car over that period. Work has included some chrome work, new hood and hood bag, new carpets while the dashboard, door cards and front seats have all been reupholstered in black leather as funds allowed. Last year I also fitted a new exhaust system.
The car is largely original and still sports her original steering box and steel wheels with chrome hub caps. The previous owner had fitted a modernised cooling system (header tank) and an electric fan which work well keeping her cool in traffic.
Overall the car is in good condition, drives well and can be relied on to keep up with modern traffic.
Please feel free to contact me with any questions or to arrange a viewing.
1961 Daimler SP250 Dart. For sale by Auction. 21st September 2019, Historics Auctioneers. Brooklands Museum
Estimate: £35000 – £40000
This lovely example of this rare model is presented in superb condition throughout having been totally nut and bolt restored over a five year period between 2010 and 2015. All invoices, as well as a full photographic history of the work carried out, can be seen in the history file. Its light blue paintwork is in lovely condition as is the dark blue leather interior, complimented by its matching tonneau and hood. The car does retain its original factory hard top which is unrestored and has covered a mere 2,000 miles since the engine was rebuilt. It also benefits from a rack and pinion steering unit, new stainless steel exhaust, modern seat belts and an electronic ignition. The history file is extremely comprehensive and makes for fascinating reading with invoices going as far back as 1962 and a small note book belonging to one of the owners in 1962, who recorded how much fuel he put in the car, at what mileage and what the cost was! Remarkable! The car also comes with its original owner’s handbook and a small handbook supplement for accessories and extras. This is one of the finest SP250s on the market and being the series ‘B’, is certainly the more desirable.

1964 Daimler SP250 Dart 'C' Spec. For sale by Auction. 16th October 2019, H&H Classics, Duxford Auction.
Estimate £34000 – £38000
– C-spec example with 100,700 recorded miles
– Subject to a previous restoration and engine overhaul
– Offered with a collection of invoices and old MOT’s
Daimler launched their new sports car at the 1959 New York Auto show. The company wanted to crack the American market and the styling had transatlantic overtones to suit. It was originally christened Dart, but Daimler quickly succumbed to the threat of legal action from Chrysler’s Dodge division and rebranded it SP250. The newcomer was clothed in a tough fibreglass body and built around a traditional cruciform-braced ladder-frame chassis – the initial A specification version of which was sadly lacking in torsional rigidity. By 1960, Daimler was in Jaguar’s hands and the so-called B specification SP250s featured a much stiffer frame, equipped with additional outriggers and a strengthening hoop between the B posts. The C specification model of 1963 brought additional creature comforts. The jewel in the car’s crown was its engine, a silky smooth 2.5-litre V-8 unit designed by Edward Turner. With 140bhp on tap and a low all-up weight, the Daimler’s performance was strong and the sound was one to savour. Suspension was independent with wishbones and coil springs at the front and a live axle hung on leaf springs at the rear. Braking was by hydraulically-operated discs all-round. The Motor test of the period quoted a 0-60mph time of 8.9 seconds and top speed of over 120mph.
`EAR 484B’ is one of the desirable C specification models which is understood to have covered 101,000 miles. It was the subject of an earlier restoration and benefited from an engine overhaul in 2005. The vendor presently judges the bodywork, Grey paintwork, Blue-piped Cream leather upholstery, V8 engine and four-speed manual gearbox to all be in `very good’ order, and is selling the car complete with: hood; unrestored hard top; collection of spares including four wire wheels; original toolkit; and selection of invoices and old MOTs, plus one valid into September 2020. A clean-looking example of a relatively rare British classic.

SP250s PARTS WANTED
WANTED: Pair of cylinder heads.
I am looking for a pair of cylinder heads in good enough condition for restoration to first class condition.
My existing cylinder heads have been skimmed too much (many years ago) and have too much porosity in the wrong places. They could of course be recovered with a great deal of work, but would probably never be really good enough.
