Just wanted to see what battery everyone runs on their SP?
I am in the market for a new one before it lets me down. Recent check is suggesting a State of Health of 35% and advising replacement!

Would ideally like to spec a period look classic battery although they are coming in very expensive and I might be tempted to get modern equivalent. Any recommendations?

Currently sporting a Duracell Advanced DA62H 12v 62A with Cranking Power 550A (EN) 600A (SAE)

    Cheers

I have had a period style battery in the past but found it didn’t last long , so I changed it for a modern style as yuasa ybx3031 12v 72ah 630 en .

Starts easily and performs ( car has a Lucas c40 look a like alternator to keep the charge , plus I keep the battery on a smart charger 24/7…….just before I took the photo I turned over the engine on the solenoid and it wizzed no problem).

    Hope that helps

    Thanks for your response brittish

I have had advice that suggests i should be using around a 73ah 680 en for the SP250 which is pretty much what your Yuasa spec battery is. I think I am swinging much more to the modern equivalent options based on price and warranty periods of up to 5 years.

It’s all about dimensions of the battery bay now for the higher spec battery, considering a Varta E11 or E38 or Banner P7412 all of which are 278 mm long which i am sure there is plenty enough room for. I still run a dynamo which is still pushing a decent charge out albeit at over 2000 rpm. I also run a smart charger for maintenance charging, in fact it was the smart charger that started to complain and error that bought me to run further test the battery and conclude i need a new one.

I used to use Lincon period looking batteries, and then found that their parent company is Shield batteries, who offer a similar product but cheaper. Both are still very expensive however compared to other options. On my last replacement, I therefore went for a modern alternative which still looked reasonable under the bonnet.

Very impressed so far with this battery and can recommend Tanya for excellent service and good prices.

    Thanks Alan,

Good to know you have had no problems with the higher spec batteries like the Enduroline 249 and with it also fitting in the standard bay

That’s a 12v 95ah 78O cca beast of a battery with 4 year warranty at Tayna. Shouldn’t have much trouble turning over the engine with that!
