Christmas is fast approaching and here in the east of the country we woke up on Monday morning to some 5 or 6 inches of snow, the SPs luckily were tucked up keeping warm and taking a lead from one of the old cronies Dean Martin:- You might need to skip the ads, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rnil5LyK_B0
Mind you over in the west of the country they were slip sliding away on their journeys:- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QPBsVEvpkk0
Keeping to the Christmas theme- Alan Mason sold out of the desk calendars so ordered a limited run to fulfil the outstanding commitments. He has a couple of the hanging version and also now the re-ordered desk versions, therefore if you need that stocking filler email Alan soaring.ace@btinternet.com to place an order.
Continuing on the Christmas theme what about a weathervane:-
I have spoken with the makers, West Country Metalworks and they are prepared to hold the £99.20 price tag until end of January, and would it not make the ultimate statement for the top of the garage? Please note postage to mainland UK is included, for overseas buyers they will not ship nor post. However, if you are an overseas buyer have it sent to me and I will on ship at cost. They will not be ready until end of January, one therefore needs to pre-order.
When attending the classic event Kop Hill this year I happened across a company called Adams & Page, tyre suppliers and fitters. https://www.adamsandpage.co.uk/ amongst the various services they provide is the correct way to fit a tyre which is by rotating the tyre on the rim until the optimum position is found, thereby eliminating as much balance weight as possible. I recall some time ago Glyn Overy’s SP with more weight on a wheel that you could buy in a fishing tackle shop. I suggested to Glyn he return to whomsoever fitted the tyre and properly fit it by rotating the tyre on the rim. His tyre man had never heard of such an action, but hey ho, I will give it a go, and he did and saved a great deal of weight.
So if you are able to visit Adams and Page in High Wycombe 01494 525 971 Richard Wos is the proprietor of this almost 100 years old company and fully understands our tyre needs as he is an amateur race driver the cost is £25 a wheel inc. vat, they do offer a refreshments while you wait.
Many hands make light work and so it was with our successful stand at the NEC Classic Car show. The Thursday set-up was accomplished in record time. Without doubt we had a most fruitful and eventful Classic Car Show at the NEC last month with the Felday 2, the centre piece, with five SPs keeping it company. Many owners came by over the weekend, so much so Alan sold out of calendars. Barry Thorne who had owned for 51 years the Felday sat in it possibly for the first time in his life. Also paying us a visit was Mike King, the racing driver, who recalled selling the Felday to a young SP enthusiast from Surrey over 50 years ago. Dave Melton had spent close on a year restoring the car and all were mightily impressed with its transformation. The next step in its process after the bodywork has been fitted is a two day shake down at Goodwood, when this takes place I will inform all so we can all see not only this Felday but others also. A whole host of drivers are being lined up to drive the Felday including Derek Bell.
Likewise visiting the stand was Richard Newman, the nephew of Peter Westbury the Hill Climb champion who built the Feldays back in the 1960s. Richard was equally impressed not only with the resurrected Felday but the standard of SPs on the stand, the upshot of which he has commission a ‘one off’ SP to be painted in Felday blue.
If you have either of the Brian Long books on the SP the Felday story is written within.
And finally……
…………….The Felday 2 itself
