A former high flying Ford Executive has seen a significant gap in the market for those looking at longings of their youthful nostalgic days. It is rumoured he has entered into a high multimillion pound agreement with his former employees to recreate a whole series of yesterday Fords. Somehow he has been able to circumnavigate various aspects of these ‘recreations’ by the use of unused vin/chassis numbers, this so as to make them road legal. See:- https://borehammotorworks.com/

It has been purported a group of American millionaires have placed orders without as yet a wheel ‘turning, and into this exciting package he has also acquired the Alan Mann Racing brand. He certainly has researched his market – nowadays historic Fords are big business.

If you view this advert https://www.carandclassic.com/l/C1747706 this is what is now a common frenzy on the continent, buy up grand old British limousines and turn them into ‘Brooklands’ lookalike specials. Another aspect of nostalgia, nonetheless, at the loss of a grand of Lady. .

This is desecration & sacrilege on a grand scale never seen before: – https://www.carandclassic.com/car/C1753786 Apparently there were no buyers for this Daimler Limousine fitted with its sleeve valve engine and so some ‘bright spark’ is trying to invent the wheel or should I say a motor of some description!

There was a major party last month over in the states as that great statesman of tuning Ed ‘Isky’ Iskendarian celebrated his 103rd birthday on 13 July. A number of SP owners have had the benefit of his insight into camshaft design and have an ‘Isky’ in the middle of their V8s. Great Man, great camshaft and the profile is still available.

On a musical note here we have Olly Murs waxing lyrical with an SP making its appearance at 17 and 28secs – you can skip the rest if you so wish. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=toZfGJl3pwU The car is in Berkshire.

The SP250 paints were originally produced by ICI (Imperial Chemical Industries) under their ‘Belco’ brand name. However, ICI sold their automotive paint business to PPG Industries Inc a USA major automotive paint supplier and it’s now produced now under their NEXA brand. It is still possible to replicate the original codes. I will point out, however, that it appears in the Southern Hemisphere problems still are arising with the NEXA paint codes.

This last weekend a group of SP owners attended the 1200 Classic Car event at Helmingham Hall in Suffolk where we had an SP250 stand. As was his wont, Dave Pooley was down on his hands and knees armed and a set of callipers taking measurements for an anti-roll bar (sway bar) kit. Dave has supplied a number of these and if you would like to order one email Dave at davepooley53@gmail.com do remember this is a bespoke fitting so fine measurements need to be taken.

I was most pleased that a number of readers found our trip to Lydden Hill to see the 2CVs racing of particular interest, more so, one reader from Australia who was pleased to see his former team still racing – I must say it was a fun day out.

The automatic SP that we showcased at the NEC a couple of years ago recently cross the auction block of H&H see:- https://www.handh.co.uk/auction/lot/lot-35—1961-daimler-sp250-dart/?lot=59889 and was ‘knock down for a bargain price of just shire of £40/-. As yet we do not know who bought the car.

Forward planning from the Goodwood Estate, in that they have announced the Revival dated for 2025, 12- 14 Sept, this is a positive step as it enables those from overseas to plan their itinerary/accommodation.

There are still a variety of SPs coming to the market for various reasons and although they seem to be finding buyers ,however, sale completions are taking time, as with the number on the market buyers are naturally being discerning.

Sean Mooney’s SP having flipped and ended upside down in a ditch. Sean decided it was a ‘Phoenix ‘moment and thus he created his ‘Frazer Nash’ lookalike based on the rebuilt chassis and running gear of his SP.

Thought for the day:
It is better to be mad with the rest of the world than to be wise alone!
