Most urgently needed is a chassis, can you help? Robert Grinter needs one to restore a customer’s SP.
We have just returned from another successful trip out to the Spa Classic……..

The photograph was taken at the Stavelot bend of the old 1920s Francorchamps Circuit when it measured some 14kms. Fortuitously, this section is wide and one way so we were able to pose high up on the banking for this shot of 8 of the SPs attending the weekend. Just out of shot and to the right is the old signalling /commentary box – this and the hoarding were recreated last year by the Stavelot tourist office as an historical reminder of this part of the track, which once went through Stavelot, Malmendy and Masta. It was given this wide raised fast banking in 1950 to mimic those American’s oval race tracks, and in this guise was the fastest race track in Europe. Though, by 1970 deemed too dangerous for the Formula 1 cars so in 1979 the circuit was reduced by 7kms to that which it is now. This redundant section is now part of the normal road along which we travel to gain entry to our stand at Raidillon (infield of Eau Rouge) thorough the Blanchimont tunnel. We are the only club to use this entrance. However, Spa is still now the most picturesque circuit in the world as it sits within the beautiful Ardennes Forest that saw the infamous battle of the Bulge whilst in Malmendy, itself, is the memorial to the Americans who were slain.

The latest publication of pasSPort, the 22nd edition, has been printed and dispatched so should by now have hit your letter box. This is more than a compendium, it is a living way of life amongst the SP fraternity and similar to a ‘normal’ passport and should be either in the glovebox or travel luggage when out and about, especially travelling overseas as there are point of contacts in most countries and no doubt a beer at the end.
A couple of you tube clips on our car, as always skip the ads Daimler SP250 – The Sacred and Profane an historical run through, and this is Glen Paterson enjoying his SP, the only commentary is the exhaust – an excellent drive in the countryside www.youtube.com/watch?v=_lxoK81hBxw
Not an SP but as close to the ground you’ll ever get in a car:– a tour of the Caterham Factory at Dartford Kent – £30 a time.

Keep a look out at the newsagents for the July edition of Car & Classic as they should be a comparison write up on the SP250 with a Morgan V8.

The cost is £55 at point of taking out a car policy or add it to your exciting PB policy, the cover has excellent benefits. It covers wheels, tyres, suspension bodywork and even headlamps.
