My wife and I have done three great European trips this year and on the first trip, after 600 miles or so, we noticed an odd noise coming from front o/s wheel, which could best be described as a “sher, sher, sher” noise. I gave the spinners a whack which seemed to help a bit but it continued until we got home. I then jacked the car up and spun the wheels – no noise. I removed them and checked the hub adaptors then cleaned all surfaces such as splines where there was an interface between wheels and adaptor. Plenty of Copperslip then ready for the next trip (Holland). We did about 1200 miles with just a hint of the odd noise. Next trip, to Brittany, we were on our own so I certainly did not want problems. I had begun to suspect the area where the centre cup of the wheels bears upon the hub adaptor (a really shiny area) so used more Copperslip there and re-fitted the wheels. After about 800 miles the noise returned, worst when the car was hot, this time o/s rear. We tried to ignore it for the remainder of the holiday. The wheels and adaptors were fitted over 100,000 miles ago so maybe they just all need replacing but it would be good to know if anybody else has experienced similar strange sounds. I should add that it is not caused by loose spokes or rubbing brake pads.
