My starter motor has stopped starting! Electrical issue.

I’m struggling to get it out. Do I really have to take the downpipe and manifold off to get it clear of the bell housing? (Especially peeved because the gearbox was out a couple of weeks ago for an overdrive repair!)

Any recommendations for repair or replacement, please? Mustn’t be any harder to install than the (assumed) original.

    Thanks.

I dismantled mine to get it out. It was in a bad way so I replaced it with a WOSP high-torque which you can wire as pre-engaged.
It has it’s own solenoid but the existing one can be used to turn the engine, handy when setting tappets etc.

Thanks, Jim, also James ( by email with pics),

It came out by disconnecting the flexible downpipe, but only by the skin of its teeth. I really didn’t want to get involved with manifold studs!

Cost of refurb is about half cost of high-torque replacement so it makes sense to replace. Have ordered a Eurolec one, recommended by a local source of knowledge. Will keep the solenoid.

Good to have your advice that it works for an SP.

    Thanks again,

    Graham
