    G’day all,
I’m hoping to pull my gearbox soon and thought it might be an ideal time to do some other maintenance, particularly on the heater. I’ve previously had the tunnel loose in the car, but it seems that the tunnel doesn’t come out without pulling the heater. Ok, that’s not too much of a problem, but how is the heater fastened? On my MGA, similar heater, but there are multiple screws around the base – none on the SP. There appear to be a couple of screws up from underneath (along with lots of silicone sealant…). Is this all that holds it in? Mine is a C spec car, but so far I can’t find any details in any manual about the heater. It’s probably easy but with the silicone holding things, I don’t want to just hack into it!

    Thanks, Andrew

The heater is bolted up from the inside of the cockpit above the transmission tunnel by 4 bolts. The main issues will be it being held by the matting under the heater itself in the engine bay – age and moisture have form an adhesive bond – just stuck, need to prise it off

    Thank you Laurence,
I’ve found that mine is only held by 2 bolts but with all the silicone. Should be fun getting that out….
What is the mat you mentioned made of – just foam rubber or similar, or some flat rubber sheet? And any idea of thickness please?

From what I recall just an 1/8 in thickness (a type of foam rubber ) to seat it and seal it .
