Can anyone advise me on the wiring to the fuel gauge please?

I have recently got the car up and running after many years off the road. The fuel gauge does not work and I think the wiring may be wrong. I have fitted a reconditioned float mechanism to the tank ( obtained from Barry Thorne)
so I know that is not the problem. There is a green and black wire which is connected to the sender and a black wire which goes to ground on the body of the unit.

Behind the dash there is a green and black wire, a black wire and a thicker wire which is red. looking at the back of the gauge, on the left there is a single connection and on the right there is a double connection.
So, There are three wires and can anyone advise me which wire goes where please. If anyone has a photo of the back of the dial with the wires in place that would be very helpful.

    Many thanks,
    Fred Garner.

Looking at the back of the gauge, the green/black wire goes to the single left terminal and feeds to the sender. The twin terminal connect the green wires, supply via ignition switch. The red/white wire is for the panel light and the black wire is earth to the case for the light. I have a photo but can’t see how to post it.
I have to tap my fuel gauge occasionally as it sticks on zero.
    Hope this helps
