As there are a few overseas SP enthusiasts attending the Goodwood Revival next month, Alan Mason will host a Whatsapp group so that attending owners can be linked together and perhaps an evening meal if you can find a restaurant. Contact Alan through soaring.ace@btinternet.com and give him your mobile number. Alan tends to ‘live’ parked on the Lavant Bank overlooking the Lavant Strait for the duration of the meeting however, it would be a jolly idea to meet up.

We did at last locate a chassis for one of Robert’s customers – thank you John.

Over in Monhton, Pennsylvania, you cannot keep a good man down; Bob Logan has indeed no idle mind nor hands as he does a chassis up/off restoration of his SP and when he isn’t knocking the skin off his knuckles and fettling his MGC he has written a book entitle ‘The Goat in the Garage’. The goat in question is Pontiac GTO, it’s a light hearted humorous story of a married man with a wife who has other ideas as to where to spend the money.

I think we all must have been in a similar position as we plead for the other life in our lives.
It is available from Amazon and other book sellers and for Gail he has made it accessible on eBooks format.

And still Stateside we have SP250 ambassador Steve Busch taking honours at the Misselwood Concours last month, Steve is most active with his SP and creates much advantageous publicity for the SP.

Presently there are about 20 SPs on the market, one of which is :- https://ebay.us/m/xuh7QC for a number of years the property of Robin Weeb the secretary of the MAC (Midland Automobile Club) who run Shelsley Walsh the hill climb venue where Daimler took the first ever honours some 110 years ago.

This is the highest we have seen for many years, therefore we are looking to develop a profile of SP250 owners so that we can understand our owners more completely which will hopefully allow us to encourage more people into Dart ownership. To this end we have developed an on-line questionnaire which I would ask you to complete. There are only 19 questions and none of them are too taxing, I promise. The survey is completely anonymous; we don’t need or want to know your name or contact details. From personal experience, I found it easier to complete on a larger screen than on a mobile phone but then I’m not a teenager! The link is https://www.smartsurvey.co.uk/s/SP250owners/

It would be most beneficial for as many as possible to complete to make it a worthwhile exercise, do it now not later as we have a time element with which to compile the data. – thank you.

The ultimate long awaited Chelsea ‘tractor’ has been announced by Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) – their new SUV EV£170,000 Range Rover, weighing just a mere 2.8 tons, no doubt Sadiq Khan the Mayor of London will soon be praising its virtues. https://www.carmagazine.co.uk/car-news/first-official-pictures/range-rover/range-rover-electric

As with every new car of this prestige it will be eagerly sought after and then it will dive in value to join the most depreciating cars of all time – with 9 out of the 10 are EVs making 10/10! https://www.whatcar.com/best/the-10-fastest-depreciating-cars/n17027

A cautionary tale – when over at Robert Grinter’s workshop recently, I saw the results of an SP fitted with single sheet steel head gaskets; water was seeping past and causing mayhem, the owner has said the engine was not running right and rough. This type was fine when the car was new some 60 odd years ago. About 2 years ago I replaced mine with a modern composite gasket and the result was a smoother running engine and idling at 450 rpm. And more importantly no water loss – not added any in the last two years, Robert Grinter has these gaskets in stock as does David Beales who makes much for the SP in stainless steel, trim screws and much more so it worthwhile checking out at:-

And Finally……….

This is what Steve Carr the NZ SP250 wizard gets up to when he has time on his hands? It’s Bryan Ashworth SP racer currently punching out some 200 horses.

Thought for the day: It’s strange that the first piece of luggage on the carousel never belongs to anyone!
