The latest global edition of pasSPort is being updated, this is most useful owners’ glove book companion, now is the time to have an entry. Last years’ edition ran to some 900 copies, it is an essential tool to take not only in the car itself but also with your other documents when travelling overseas without your SP. I have attached a form just in case you don’t have a copy and wish to be included. Then please send to Glyn, glynovery@talktalk.net oh and any and all donations will be gratefully received by Glyn.

Early last month, Hampshire based, John Abel sent a plea to find an original steering column, and this isn’t just any SP but the famous Duncan Black race car that Duncan campaign so successfully back in the early 1960s in the USA. I thought not an issue as so many SPs have been converted to rack & pinion, alas not so as I had a light bulb moment – its left hand drive, and there lies the rub, our RHD SPs columns don’t fit. I put out a plea to a number of owners and it was answered by John Giddings in Wales who leaped into action over the SP ether Facebook network, the result, he received positive replies initially from the US, however, a little later a column turned up in the north of the country – so to all that responded thank you on behalf of an historic SP.

So how does one repay John for his endeavours, than by this clip of his car being exercised in the Welsh highways and byways:- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gV_lPX9qy4w you will need to skip the adverts now and then, as always the sweet music from its twin exhausts tells the whole story.

Meanwhile, early last month Allan Warner from Connecticut was very busy as you see with ‘spit & polish’ by picking up a prestige award for his SP at The Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance , sponsored by Hagerty Insurance. Do click on all the 3 links.

https://entrant.hagerty.com/entries/public/ADUANQA1ADY the award itself, then the video clip — https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T8HL1HY_h34 – in this clip watch the Aston Martin DB5 – let of steam! in the opening sequence, whilst at the tail end of the video at 22.23 is the tail end of the SP- excellent and well done Allan, justly deserved.

And yet more if you have the time, if not then just skip to 48.00 minutes to see the only Daimler Dart – XHP 438 now tucked up in the JDHT museum at Gaydon, having spent many years in the Canadian wilderness coming back to the UK in 2019. https://youtu.be/cI7LMnC9pjM?si=zbW4LLh-HN7P7MOm

I nearly had a fit when I first open this picture sent in by Dennis Brammer who lives on Vancouver Island which he took at a classic car show in the city of Vancouver itself. (which is not on the Island) Initially I thought it was an SP by the curvature of its wings until I spied the badge on its snout. – What sacrilege, mind you it’s only a Healey

Perseverance, patience and endurance is the name of the game if trying to book for the SP250 day on the 27th July at the Bromyard festival https://bromyardspeedfestival.co.uk hopefully you will get a positive response as we have been told all SPs will be admitted, then email Glyn at glynovery@talktalk.net

Ann has never forgiven me for selling her Morris Minor traveller, so to make amends and combine the ‘woody’ style with a sporting V8 twist I thought this the answer for those continental camping trips – just kidding – could never get Ann into the camping mode let alone a Morgan!

We drove up to the Midlands last month to pick up my SP with its new hood. I am most pleased with its outcome. It is an excellent tight fit. Driving home at about 65MPH no drafts and kept warm all the way home. Graham Watkins of GB Classic Trim did the work and his mint SP is at :- NEC Classic Car Show: Daimler SP250 Owners Club – GB Classic Trim

We are over to the Spa Classic on the 23 – 25 May we still have the odd seat available if interested

And finally………..,

Close Encounters of another kind’ or as James Bond says ‘Shaken, not stirred’

Pleased to report its being repaired, driver was alright albeit somewhat dazed, understandably so

Thought for the day:
A diplomat is a man who always remembers a woman’s birthday but never her age!

—thanks to Christen Demler; Jim Davies, John Giddings, Alan Mason , Allan Warner, Dave Huckstep, Glyn Overy, Steve Parker and Dennis Brammer for their support.
